Understanding Custom Questions
The Custom Questions section allows organizations to view responses to additional survey questions that are included in their patient surveys.
These questions are configured as part of your survey setup and may vary depending on your organization’s needs.
Custom questions often gather feedback about specific services, programs, or experiences that go beyond the standard patient experience metrics.
Selecting a Survey and Question
To view results for a custom question, you must first select:
- The Survey
- The Question
The available questions are dynamic and depend on how your survey was configured.
Once a survey is selected, the Question dropdown will display the custom questions included in that survey.
Viewing Results
After selecting a question, the system will display the responses in a format that matches the question type.
Different types of questions display results differently.
Free Text Questions
Some custom questions allow patients to write open-ended responses.
For example:
“In a few words, please provide any additional comments you’d like to share.”
For these questions, responses are displayed in a table format that includes:
- Response Date
- Patient Comment
- Selected Language
This allows teams to review individual patient feedback directly.
Multiple Choice or Scored Questions
If the selected question uses predefined answer options, the results will appear as a visual breakdown of the responses.
This view typically includes:
- A chart showing how responses are distributed across answer options
- The number of responses for each option
- The percentage of responses for each option
This format helps organizations quickly understand how patients responded to the question overall.
Filtering Results
Custom question results may be filtered by:
- Organization
- Time period
Available filters depend on your system configuration and user permissions.
Important Notes
A few important things to know about Custom Questions:
- Custom questions vary by organization and survey setup
- Not all surveys will contain custom questions
- The results display the responses exactly as submitted by patients
- Custom questions do not include comparison tools across groups or practices
The purpose of this section is simply to display the responses collected for the selected question.
Exporting Results
If export functionality is available in your organization’s configuration, responses may be exported for further review or reporting.
Exported data includes the responses displayed for the selected survey and question.
Why Custom Questions Matter
Custom questions allow organizations to gather feedback on topics that are unique to their services or operations.
This flexibility helps teams:
- Collect feedback about specific programs or services
- Understand patient needs in greater detail
- Review direct patient comments
- Monitor responses to organization-specific questions
Together with standard patient experience metrics, custom questions help create a more complete view of the patient experience.
